Gratitude Challenge Day 3: Giving gratitude for being uniquely you
You are so powerful! You can do and achieve anything you put your mind to and are willing to do the work for. Like I tell my clients all the time, you have all the answers within. It’s my job to help you discover those answers and decide what you want to do about them, if anything at all.
If we are growing and maturing into healthy, wise people, then change is part of that process. Changes can be difficult, but they don’t have to be. It’s all in our perception. We can choose how we view events in our lives. I believe three of the most important tools for dealing with change and new seasons are optimism, joy, and gratitude.
The process of change and transformation is all about being grateful for everything —including the challenges you go through and your ability to overcome them. It’s important to get it all straight inside your head first, know what changes you want to create, see yourself overcoming the obstacles and achieving your dreams. Then, take action. People often say that they have to see something to believe it, but actually in the manifestation process, we have to believe it within ourselves first to then see it happen in our realities.
Remember on Day 1 how we talked about hope being a building block of faith? Well, the Bible also says that “Faith without works is dead” (James 2:14). So, that’s where the action part comes in. Being grateful for the opportunity to create positive changes in our lives (along with being grateful for the lessons we learn through the challenges) is a key part of the action phase of change.
We are all unique. Some of us are better at embracing it than others. As long as we focus on our positive attributes and build on them, we are doing life perfectly. I remember my Addicted Family Therapy professor telling me, “Senée, it isn’t about perfection. It’s about progression.” We can choose to progress in a positive direction or a negative one. The choice is up to us.
I encourage you to choose positivity and focus on what makes you uniquely you. I refer to it in today’s gratitude as “individuality” which I know some cultures frown upon, but what I really mean is “uniqueness.”
Love is the highest frequency of all. When we consciously do things out of a heart of love — first for ourselves, then for those around us — we are doing things with the right intentions. The outcome doesn’t matter because how others react is their business — not ours. The only responsibility we have is to do everything with a pure heart and pure intentions out of a place of love. When we are operating in that space, we are doing things perfectly. If you plan to spend the holidays with any difficult people, this is something that you’ll need to keep at the forefront of your mind.
Coming from this place of love, reinforces your uniqueness. It gives you confidence from the kingdom within that no one can take away from you. Trust me when I tell you that other people notice. This is what I call letting your light shine. Some people really like it when your light shines because it shows them the way through the darkness. I’ve learned this year, that other people can’t stand it when you shine brightly. Maybe it blinds them and hurts their eyes? Maybe it just shines light on the areas in which they need to make some changes, and they don’t want to see them and prefer for that stuff to be in the dark? Either way, hiding your light under a bushel defeats the purpose and does a disservice to you and all the people who can be helped and inspired by seeing your light. So, let it shine! Let it shine! Let it shine!
I encourage you today to be authentically you. Will some people not like it and reject you? Yes, but that’s OK because some people choose not to resonate in that high, vibrational frequency. That’s their choice. Wish them well from a pure heart, and dismiss them from your kingdom … That’s the most loving thing you can do for yourself and them. Seek righteousness and peace, and it will keep your heart in quietness and confidence forever (Isaiah 32:17).
As you’re going through this change process, it’s really important to pay special attention to the milestones in your life. I tell clients this all the time. Often, we get so focused not only on the goal/destination, but also on every step we need to take and how far we still have left to go. This can cause us to not take time to celebrate how far we’ve actually come. When we stop and celebrate the milestones, we are not being selfish or conceded. We are actually taking the time to express gratitude for how far we’ve come instead of being so focused on how far we have left to go. Being focused on the distance to our destination can sometimes turn into pessimism and negative thinking which doesn’t serve us well on our journeys.
So, the focus today is to celebrate your uniqueness, identify your goals to create positive changes in your life and celebrate the milestones you’ve accomplished along the way. Now, let’s get into today’s practice …
The highlight of my day was:
What good or positive thing happened to you today? If nothing stands out to you, then what one thing are you grateful didn’t go a lot worse?
Today, I am grateful for the unique privilege of being me. I embrace my individuality.
Now, list three things that make you uniquely you and that you appreciate about yourself. (These can be physical attributes or inner characteristics about yourself.) Next, look at your life at this time last year (or any timeframe that seem appropriate to you) and write down where you were then and where you are now.
As a bonus, I encourage you after you’ve made and shared this list with us to stand in front of a mirror, read it out loud and look at yourself as you’re doing it. I often give this type of mirror work to clients to help develop their self-esteem. It’s powerful and works wonders when used consistently — I recommend doing it daily until you feel yourself looking, feeling and acting more confidently in your daily life and interactions.

In case no one’s told you lately, I’m so grateful for you! You are unique. You are one-of-a-kind! You are brilliant, and no one in this world can do you and accomplish your mission like you can! Never forget that you have shown up here, at this moment in time, for a purpose. Allow yourself to go to the kingdom within, find that purpose, live it daily and let your light shine. Until we meet again tomorrow … Keep your crown on & stay on your throne!
